Kidspeak

We listened to A LOT of Christmas songs leading up to the actual holiday. I mean, A LOT. I kept meaning to get another Christmas CD or another few downloads from iTunes, but it never happened. As a result, we heard the same twenty Christmas songs over and over and over and over and ...

So as you can imagine, my kids now know twenty Christmas songs by heart. The CD we have has a mix of traditional and newer (read: Mariah Carey in all her glory) songs. One of their favorites (and I'm sure it has absolutely no correlation with the fact that this is the very first song on the CD) is this gem from 1994 by the one and only Mariah herself.

After hearing a lot of this song over the last few weeks, Sam and I had the following conversation the other day:

Sam: "Hey Mommy, did you know that girls want babies for Christmas? Isn't that funny?"

Me (startled because of all their interest in babies in people's tummies lately ... please don't tell me we even have to think of having a conversation related to THAT yet): "You mean like baby dolls?"

Sam: "No, Mommy. BABIES! Like in the song."

Me: "What song?"

Sam: "You know, All I Want For Christmas Is Yoooooooooou, Baby!"

Whew, crisis averted. No birds and the bees talk yet. Though we apparently need to chat about musical tastes when it comes to Christmas music ... or maybe just download some new Christmas songs.
